Three years ago, I made a video about a long forgotten metalcore band from Vicksburg. A year after that, I wrote about it at length in an essay here. Two years after that, I sat down with them to get the full story: their formation, the infamous tornado, the dissolution of the band, and life now.

This video was five months in the making, and combined with old footage from 2008-2011 (which I only used a small fraction of, there was so much that was given to me), this is probably the most ambitious YouTube video I have made, and I’ve been doing this on and off since 2019. And now, for a little inside baseball: yes, this took about five months to make. Not to edit (because I am a fast editor, and I pride myself on that), but because there were a lot of moving parts involved. Finding an interview space (shoutout Cody Cox and Urban Foxes!), coordinating all our schedules, getting the stack of mini-DVDs, traveling to Port Gibson. Getting to the ruins was the hardest because there were a couple of weeks of nonstop rain and more weeks of schedule conflicts in June that really put a wrench in things.

I do really want to do more longform video interviews like this, but considering I started JXN UNDERGROUND to be a specifically written project and the time (and money) it took to make this, that might not be in the cards. Either way, I am extraordinarily happy with the outcome.
