If you’re looking for a new track to add to your cookout playlist on America’s birthday, look no further – Jackson punk-adjacent 3-peice Headcannon has got you covered with their new single Love and Romance, out today.

The band, consisting of Gage King on bass and vocals, Gene Loper on drums, and Isaac Smith on Guitar and Vocals, has been around for just over a year, but got to work on their first project this spring, recording with Brandon Goehner of Local & Live Sessions fame. The trio also has their own live session video, the first in Goehner’s series.

This single will be their first from a 12-track album titled Punk Adjacent, which will drop in September. According to the band, before the album is released this fall, there will be at least one more single.

Headcannon’s music is not quite punk, not quite metal, not quite garage rock or pop, but rather punk-adjacent, as they say, which was the inspiration for the title of their upcoming debut album. There are also dashes of 80s and 90s punk sprinkled in there, with Fugazi being the band that has influenced their musical style the most.

Although they describe themselves as “average musicians at best,” Headcannon’s live shows are always a treat to see. “What we lack in natural talent, we make up for with true determination to make the best music we can and have as much fun playing live as possible.” As someone who has seen Headcannon a number of times, their joy of music making is exuded in their performance.

Don’t believe me? You’ll have ample opportunity to see for yourself with upcoming shows at Martin’s Downtown on July 5th, Sunflower Oven on July 12th, Urban Foxes on July 13th, and more shows in October and November to round out the year.

Love and romance is available to stream now.
